Vulnerability discussion

Power systems rely on multiple tiers of defense for providing continuous power to sites and systems. Commercial power may be supplemented by uninterruptible power systems (UPS), generators, or other means. Power must be distributed to the network infrastructure, endpoints, servers, and other network devices to ensure constant delivery of services. Voice Video systems must be designed and implemented to ensure fire and emergency services (FES) are always available.Voice Video endpoint users require different levels of capability depending on DISN Voice Precedence needs. Flash/Flash Override users must have eight hours of continuous backup power at all times. Immediate/Priority users must have two hours of continuous backup power. Routine and lower users do not require backup power, except to provide necessary FES. The UPS must provide power for the LAN infrastructure, WAN boundary, Voice Video infrastructure, and Voice Video endpoints.

Review the Voice Video system security plan (SSP) for design criteria for the physical environment of the Voice Video system. Ensure the UPS provides two hours of continuous backup power for the LAN infrastructure, WAN boundary, Voice Video infrastructure, and Voice Video endpoints to support DISN Voice Precedence level Immediate/Priority users. Verify the Voice Video system provides 99.997 percent availability. If the organization does not provide UPS with two hours of continuous backup power for the LAN infrastructure, WAN boundary, Voice Video infrastructure, and Voice Video endpoints to support DISN Voice Precedence level Immediate/Priority users, this is a finding. If the Voice Video system availability for Immediate/Priority users is less than 99.997 percent, this is a finding.

Develop and document in the Voice Video SSP the design criteria for the physical environment of the Voice Video system. The organization must provide UPS with two hours of continuous backup power for the LAN infrastructure, WAN boundary, Voice Video infrastructure, and Voice Video endpoints to support DISN Voice Precedence level Immediate/Priority users. The organization must also ensure the Voice Video system provides 99.997 percent availability. The UPS system must support all Immediate/Priority users in all parts of the network design as follows: - All Voice Video system components, including portions of the LAN directly supporting these users, are provided with a minimum of two hours of UPS. - All Immediate/Priority user Voice Video endpoints relying on Power over Ethernet (PoE) must have power sourcing equipment sized to support the asset and endpoints by the UPS for two hours. - All Immediate/Priority user Voice Video endpoints without PoE must be provided with a minimum of two hours of UPS. - All Voice Video system components must have minimal environmental power (HVAC) to prevent equipment failures for two hours. - All UPS units will be sized and maintained to prevent power loss or drop to the supported equipment when primary power is removed.

Lavender hyperlinks in small type off to the right (of CSS class id, if you view the page source) point to globally unique URIs for each document and item. Copy the link location and paste anywhere you need to talk unambiguously about these things.
