Vulnerability discussion

Information flow control regulates where information is allowed to travel within a network and between interconnected networks. The flow of all network traffic must be monitored and controlled so it does not introduce any unacceptable risk to the network infrastructure or data. For Voice Video systems, session flow of information is controlled by dial plans that coordinate connections between endpoints. Dial plans can also reduce connection costs in some cases, relying on routes across the DoDIN rather than over commercial services. Voice Video session managers can route connections to known commercial services and DoD providers. Using DoDIN network paths reduces the risk of an adversary to intercept calls. However, dial plans can be mimicked and therefore are only part of a defense-in-depth approach. Some users, such as mission-critical decision makers using the DISN Voice Precedence system, have greater capabilities in support of mission requirements. These approved authorizations must be documented.

Check content

Review the Voice Video call control policy (dial plan) for approved authorizations between interconnected systems. Approved authorizations will include mission-critical decision-maker capabilities for DISN Voice Precedence, location and answering point metadata for fire and emergency services, class-of-service limitations, and other locally determined functions. If the approved authorizations through the Voice Video call control policy (dial plan) between interconnected systems is not fully documented, this is a finding.

Fix text

Document the Voice Video call control policy (dial plan) for approved authorizations between interconnected systems. Approved authorizations will include mission-critical decision-maker capabilities for DISN Voice Precedence, location and answering point metadata for fire and emergency services, class-of-service limitations, and other locally determined functions. Relevant documents for DoD authorizations include DoDI 6055.06 and Unified Capabilities Requirements (UCR).

Pro Tips

Lavender hyperlinks in small type off to the right (of CSS class id, if you view the page source) point to globally unique URIs for each document and item. Copy the link location and paste anywhere you need to talk unambiguously about these things.

You can obtain data about documents and items in other formats. Simply provide an HTTP header Accept: text/turtle or Accept: application/rdf+xml.
