Authentication must not automatically give an entity access to an asset. Authorization procedures and controls must be implemented to ensure each authenticated entity also has a validated and current authorization. Authorization is the process of determining whether an entity, once authenticated, is permitted to access a specific asset. Registration authenticates and authorizes Voice Video endpoints with the registration server, which is usually a function of the session manager.
Review the Voice Video registration policies enforced by session managers for approved Voice Video endpoints. These policies must identify and document the session manager registration processes, to include disabling auto-registration, transfer protocols allowed, and re-registration timeouts. Configuration files transferred must be digitally signed for integrity and encrypted for confidentiality. If the organization has not documented the Voice Video registration policies enforced by session managers for approved Voice Video endpoints, this is a finding.
