All SIP and AS-SIP packets are not dropped by the DISN NIPRNet IPVS firewall (EBC) except those AS-SIP packets arriving on IP Port 5061 that are secured with TLS.

Part of Deficient EBC config: SIP, AS-SIP, TLS, IP Port

SV-21811r1_rule All SIP and AS-SIP packets are not dropped by the DISN NIPRNet IPVS firewall (EBC) except those AS-SIP packets arriving on IP Port 5061 that are secured with TLS.

Vulnerability discussion

DISN NIPRNet IPVS PMO and the UCR require all session signaling across the DISN WAN and between the LSC and EBC to be secured with TLS. The standard IANA assigned IP port for SIP protected by TLS (SIP-TLS) is 5061. DoD PPSM requires that protocols traversing the DISN and DoD enclave boundaries use the standard IP port(s) for the specific protocol. Since AS-SIP is a standardized extension of the SIP protocol and since AS-SIP must be protected by TLS, AS-SIP-TLS must use IP port 5061.

Check content

Interview the IAO to confirm compliance with the following requirement: Ensure the DISN NIPRNet IPVS firewall (EBC) is configured to drop the following signaling packets: > SIP packets arriving on IP port 5060 or 5061 > AS-SIP packets arriving on IP port 5060 > AS-SIP packets arriving on IP port 5061 not secured with TLS

Fix text

Ensure the DISN NIPRNet IPVS firewall (EBC) is configured to drop the following signaling packets: > SIP packets arriving on IP port 5060 or 5061 > AS-SIP packets arriving on IP port 5060 > AS-SIP packets arriving on IP port 5061 not secured with TLS

Pro Tips

Lavender hyperlinks in small type off to the right (of CSS class id, if you view the page source) point to globally unique URIs for each document and item. Copy the link location and paste anywhere you need to talk unambiguously about these things.

You can obtain data about documents and items in other formats. Simply provide an HTTP header Accept: text/turtle or Accept: application/rdf+xml.
