Vulnerability discussion

Passwords need to be protected at all times and encryption is the standard method for protecting passwords. If passwords are not encrypted, they can be plainly read (i.e., clear text) and easily compromised.AAA Service can accomplish this by making direct function calls to encryption modules or by leveraging operating system encryption capabilities.

Check content

Verify the AAA Service is configured to encrypt transmitted passwords using a FIPS-validated cryptographic module. The AAA Service may leverage the capability of an operating system or purpose-built module for this purpose. If the AAA Service is not configured to encrypt transmitted passwords using a FIPS-validated cryptographic module, this is a finding. Note: FIPS-validated cryptographic modules are listed on the NIST Cryptographic Module Validation Program's (CMVP) validation list.

Fix text

Configure the AAA Service to encrypt transmitted passwords using a FIPS-validated cryptographic module.

Pro Tips

Lavender hyperlinks in small type off to the right (of CSS class id, if you view the page source) point to globally unique URIs for each document and item. Copy the link location and paste anywhere you need to talk unambiguously about these things.

You can obtain data about documents and items in other formats. Simply provide an HTTP header Accept: text/turtle or Accept: application/rdf+xml.
