Vulnerability discussion

DFSMS provides data, storage, program, and device management functions for the operating system. Some DFSMS storage administration functions allow a user to obtain a privileged status and effectively bypass all ACP data set and volume controls. Failure to properly protect DFSMS resources may result in unauthorized access. This exposure could compromise the availability and integrity of the operating system environment, system services, and customer data.

NOTE: This PDI applies only if USE_RESOWNER(YES) is specified either explicitly or implicitly in the active IGDSMxx member of SYS1.PARMLIB. If USE_RESOWNER(NO) is specified, this FINDING will be marked NOT APPLICABLE. a) Refer to the following report produced by the ACF2 Data Collection: - ACF2CMDS.RPT(RULES) Provide a list of data set names and/or high-level qualifiers of all DFSMS-controlled data sets. b) Compare the $RESOWNER(resowner) definitions from the ACF2CMDS.RPT(RULES) data set against the PROFILE(DATASET) DIVISION(DFP) definition. c) If the ACF2 data set rules for the SMS controlled data sets have a matching DFP resource owner defined, there is NO FINDING. d) If (c) above is untrue, this is a FINDING.

Fix text

The IAO will ensure that if USE_RESOWNER(YES) is in effect, a resource owner (RESOWNER) in the DFP segment of all ACP data set profiles is defined NOTE: This PDI applies only if USE-RESOWNER(YES) is specified either explicitly or implicitly in the active IGDSMxx member of SYS1.PARMLIB. Otherwise, this FINDING will be marked NOT APPLICABLE. Ensure the ACF2 data set rules for the SMS controlled data sets have a matching DFP resource owner defined.

Pro Tips

Lavender hyperlinks in small type off to the right (of CSS class id, if you view the page source) point to globally unique URIs for each document and item. Copy the link location and paste anywhere you need to talk unambiguously about these things.

You can obtain data about documents and items in other formats. Simply provide an HTTP header Accept: text/turtle or Accept: application/rdf+xml.
