Vulnerability discussion

Access to memory and privileged program dumps running Trusted Control Block (TCB) key 0-7 may hold passwords, encryption keys, or other sensitive data that should not be made available. Failure to properly control access to these facilities could result in unauthorized personnel modifying sensitive z/OS lists. This exposure may threaten the integrity and availability of the operating system environment, and compromise the confidentiality of customer data.

Automated Analysis Refer to the following report produced by the Data Set and Resource Data Collection: - PDI(ACP00260) Review resource rules for TYPE(FAC). Ensure that the IEAABD.- resource is defined with PREVENT access and that access is not available to any user. Ensure that IEAABD.DMPAUTH.- is defined and access with SERVICE(READ) being available to all users. Ensure that IEAABD.DMPAUTH.- is defined and access with the SERVICE(UPDATE) is restricted to only systems personnel and that all access is logged. Ensure that IEAABD.DMPAKEY.- is defined and permission is restricted to only systems personnel and that all access is logged.

Fix text

Memory and privileged program dump resources are provided via resources in the FACILITY resource class. The IAO will ensure that IEAABD resources in the FACILITY resource class are defined. When protecting the facilities for dumps lists via the FACILITY resource class, use the following controls: Ensure the following resources in the FACLITY resource class. IEAABD.- IEAABD.DMPAUTH.- IEAABD.DMPAKEY.- No access will be given to IEAABD.-. IEAABD.DMPAUTH.- access READ can be made available to all users. IEAABD.DMPAUTH.- access UPDATE will be restricted to system programming personnel and access will be logged. IEAABD.DMPAKEY.- access will be restricted to system programming personnel and access will be logged. The following commands is an example: $KEY(IEAABD) TYPE(FAC) DMPAKEY.- UID(syspaudt) LOG DMPAUTH.- UID(syspaudt) SERVICE(UPDATE) LOG DMPAUTH.- UID(*) SERVICE(READ) - UID(*) PREVENT SET R(FAC) COMPILE 'ACF2.MVA.FAC(IEAABD)' STORE F ACF2,REBUILD(FAC)

Pro Tips

Lavender hyperlinks in small type off to the right (of CSS class id, if you view the page source) point to globally unique URIs for each document and item. Copy the link location and paste anywhere you need to talk unambiguously about these things.

You can obtain data about documents and items in other formats. Simply provide an HTTP header Accept: text/turtle or Accept: application/rdf+xml.
