SV-100327r1_rule The AppleTalk protocol must be disabled or not installed.

Vulnerability discussion

The AppleTalk suite of protocols is no longer in common use. Binding this protocol to the network stack increases the attack surface of the host. Unprivileged local processes may be able to cause the system to dynamically load a protocol handler by opening a socket using the protocol.

Check content

Verify the AppleTalk protocol handler is prevented from dynamic loading: # grep "install appletalk /bin/true" /etc/modprobe.conf /etc/modprobe.conf.local /etc/modprobe.d/* If no result is returned, this is a finding.

Fix text

Prevent the AppleTalk protocol handler for dynamic loading: # echo "install appletalk /bin/true" >> /etc/modprobe.conf.local

Pro Tips

Lavender hyperlinks in small type off to the right (of CSS class id, if you view the page source) point to globally unique URIs for each document and item. Copy the link location and paste anywhere you need to talk unambiguously about these things.

You can obtain data about documents and items in other formats. Simply provide an HTTP header Accept: text/turtle or Accept: application/rdf+xml.
