SV-78195r3_rule InPrivate browsing in Microsoft Edge must be disabled.

Vulnerability discussion

The InPrivate browsing feature in Microsoft Edge prevents the storing of history, cookies, temporary Internet files, or other data. Disabling this feature maintains this data for review as necessary.

Check content

If the following registry value does not exist or is not configured as specified, this is a finding. Registry Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Registry Path: \SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MicrosoftEdge\Main\ Value Name: AllowInPrivate Type: REG_DWORD Value: 0x00000000 (0)

Fix text

Configure the policy value for Computer Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components >> Microsoft Edge >> "Allow InPrivate browsing" to "Disabled". Prior to v1607 of Windows 10, the policy name was "Turn off InPrivate browsing". The STIG configuration selection did not change.

Pro Tips

Lavender hyperlinks in small type off to the right (of CSS class id, if you view the page source) point to globally unique URIs for each document and item. Copy the link location and paste anywhere you need to talk unambiguously about these things.

You can obtain data about documents and items in other formats. Simply provide an HTTP header Accept: text/turtle or Accept: application/rdf+xml.
